Manawa Johnson

Manawa graduated from the University of Auckland in 2012 and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in 2012. Manawa joined Tamaki Legal in 2023.


Manawa started her career in Waitangi Tribunal litigation and has worked as claimant counsel in Northland, Te Rohe Potae and Porirua ki Manawatu. She worked as an in-house lawyer negotiating commercial redress properties in treaty settlements and spent time overseas working in a firm in London. Manawa graduated with a Masters in Law in International Law from the University of Auckland in 2022.


Manawa has prior experience in Waitangi Tribunal litigation and family law. She is currently involved in the Marine and Coastal Act High Court Applications, and the Renewed Muriwhenua Inquiry.


Manawa is passionate about Māori legal issues. She spends time in Auckland and in Te Tai Tokerau where she currently lives with her husband.
