Representing applicant groups seeking customary marine title and protected customary rights under the Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) Act 2011 (MACA Act).
Tāmaki Legal’s MACA team has achieved success with 5 out of 5 High Court applications that have been heard and completed to date. One of the successful applications was on behalf of the Pirere whānau of Whakataki, located near Castlepoint along the Wairarapa coastline. We utilise a comprehensive evidence gathering process, the best of historians, refined submissions and a highly developed understanding of the MACA Act. Funding is usually available from Te Arawhiti, a Crown agency.
